On 23 August 2018 this publication was amended due to data quality issues that meant the figures published originally were potentially misleading. All data that refer to geographical breakdowns or eligibility criteria have been removed due to problems with the accuracy of the data.
Eligibility data has been removed as it was calculated from a small sample of GOS forms and as a result the published figures were potentially inaccurate, and therefore potentially misleading.
Geographical data has been removed as it is impossible to ascertain how many NHS Sight Tests are carried out in each area, therefore the figures published were potentially inaccurate and were potentially misleading.
This report presents summary information about GOS activity in England for the financial year 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018, and time series from 2002-03.
The number of NHS-funded sight tests carried out in 2017-18 was 13,032,582, an increase of 0.3 per cent from 2016-17.
There were 23,994 NHS-funded sight tests conducted per 100,000 population
