Summary
The National Bowel Cancer Audit 2012 Annual Report closely follows the 2011 Supplementary Report and again uses audit data linked with HES data to improve the audit findings.
The report demonstrates a continued improvement in post-operative mortality, an increase in the use of laparoscopic surgery, a significant proportion of patients not undergoing a major resection and patients still having a temporary stoma 12 months after undergoing an anterior resection.
