Summary
NHS contraceptive services in England are provided principally by General Practitioners and family planning clinics. Services are also provided by voluntary organisations and by the private sector.
Highlights
In 2004-2005 family planning clinics in England recorded about 2.6 million attendances, made by about 1.2 million different women and 99,000 men, a decrease of 2-3% compared with the corresponding figures for 2003-2004.
Emergency contraception was prescribed by clinics on 179,000 occasions, a decrease of 5% compared with 2003-04.
