Try the National Care Records Service today
The National Care Records Service (NCRS) is replacing the Summary Care Record application (SCRa).
All SCRa users will need to switch to NCRS before 29 September 2023. The switchover to NCRS is quick and simple with the right software installed on the users’ device, it can be as easy as changing a web link.
NCRS provides a quick, secure way to access national patient information and it is free to use. Find out how to make the switch.
Retiring the Care Identity Service
We are retiring the Care Identity Service (CIS), which is used by health and care professionals in England to securely access national clinical systems.
It’s being replaced by the Care Identity Service 2 (CIS2). The new service will enable internet-first access and allow new methods of authentication beyond smartcards.
IT suppliers are also updating their products to use CIS2, and national services, including the NHS e-Referral Service, will move to it by September 2023. Services will be contacting their users about the switchover and any actions they need to take.
