Collection of Out of Area Placements (OAPS) for adults in acute mental health inpatient services Direction 2016

A Direction given by the Secretary of State for Health requiring NHS Digital to establish and operate an informatics support service for the collection of information about Out of Area Placements (OAPS) for adults in mental health inpatient services.

Purpose

To support the Government's national ambition to eliminate inappropriate out of area placements for adult acute inpatients by 2020/21.

Legal basis

Sections 254(1) and (6), 274(2) and 304(9), (10) and (12) of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 and Regulation 32 of the National Institute for Health and Social Care Excellence (Constitution and Functions) and the Health and Social Care Information Centre (Functions) Regulations 2013.

This Direction came into force on 10 October 2016.
