Mandatory Request to NHS Digital – Patient Level Costing Information Systems (PLICS) mental health continued implementation

A further Mandatory Request from NHS Improvement (Monitor) requesting that NHS Digital establish and operate a system for the collection and analysis of Patient Level Information and Costing Systems (PLICS) data from mental health providers.

In accordance with the Health and Care Act 2022 and the Health and Care Act 2022 (Commencement No. 2 and Transitional and Saving Provision) Regulations 2022, as of 1 July 2022 Monitor (NHS Improvement) is abolished.

All mandatory requests from Monitor (NHS Improvement) are to be treated as a direction by NHS England to NHS Digital under section 254 of the Health and Social Care Act 2012.


Purpose

NHS Improvement, working with NHS England, is responsible for developing, publicising and enforcing the national tariff, which sets out the price payable by commissioners for NHS services. NHS Improvement is also responsible for licensing providers of NHS services.

A further mandatory request under sections 255(1), 256(1)(a) and 256(2)(a) of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 (“HSCA”) that NHS Digital continues to establish and operate a system for the collection.
