National Paediatric Diabetes Audit

Data Provision Notice to request the submission of data from the National Paediatric Diabetes Audit, to allow the monitoring of the transition of young people to adult diabetes services.


NHS England has directed NHS Digital to undertake linkage between the National Paediatric Diabetes Audit (NPDA) (managed by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health) and the National Diabetes Audit (NDA) (managed by NHS Digital).

The NPDA data relates to under 18 year olds diagnosed with diabetes and the care they receive from paediatric diabetes services.

This Notice requests the submission of the NPDA data to that NHS Digital can undertake this linkage, with provision for the analysis of the data and subsequent reporting across a range of elements, including Type 2 care for young people.

Scope of the collection

This Notice is served on:

  • Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) as Data Controller for the NPDA.

Legal basis for provision of data

NHS Digital has been directed by NHS England under section 254 of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 (2012 Act) to establish and operate a system for the collection and analysis of the information specified for this service.

Period of the Collection

The NPDA data will be collected annually in October 2020 for 2019/20 data and September/October 2021 for 2020/21 data. Future dates will depend on the contract agreed with HQIP and NHS England, but are expected to be in the autumn for the previous year’s data.

NHS Digital intends to publish the reports using the NPDA data in June 2021 and June 2022 for the current contract.
