Addition of 'Ingredients for VTMs' in dm+d (XML) release files and SNOMED CT UK Drug Extension

Page contents

Summary

In dm+d, ingredients are authored for Virtual Medicinal Product (VMPs) but not currently for Virtual Therapeutic Moiety (VTMs). VTM-Ingredient link information cannot be derived from any content currently in dm+d. A VTM can, at times, have an ingredient that is a level of abstraction above the VMP ingredient for example, base vs salt. Ingredients are being added for VTMs at the time of authoring as it will aid in the modelling/classification of the SNOMED CT UK Drug Extension content

Timeframe

Quarter 2 2024: Change to SNOMED CT UK Edition releases - Concrete Value files

NHS England will start to publish regular Concrete Value files for all SNOMED CT UK Edition releases from the 38.2.0 12 June 2024 release.

These files will follow the standard naming convention for this type of file, for example sct2_RelationshipConcreteValues_UKDRSnapshot_ GB1000001_ 20240410.txt

For more information on the structure of these files please see the Concrete Value File Specification from the SNOMED CT Release File Specifications.

These files will be empty apart from the header row, with UK Drug content appearing from the 38.2.0 12 June 2024 release.

We currently do not expect there will be any concrete values in the SNOMED CT UK Clinical Extension.

Quarter 3 2024: Release of 'Ingredients for VTMs' in dm+d (XML) release files and SNOMED CT UK Drug Extension

The addition of ingredients for Virtual Therapeutic Moiety (VTMs) went live in the dm+d TRUD release and NHS England Terminology Server on 23 September 2024.

VTM/ingredient information is provided as an additional (‘bonus’) file within the dm+d weekly extract. The content in this initial file will remain static until further notice. The purpose of this file is to enable users to view the information and understand more about the type of content it will provide once populated and how it can be used in future. Whilst the data in the initial file will remain static, file names and date stamps will be updated for continuity. After this, the file will be gradually updated until the remaining VTM Ingredients are reviewed and populated. This will take several weeks, and confirmation will be provided once this work is complete. dm+d and SNOMED CT UK Drug Extension users therefore need to note that during this period, there will be VTMs without ingredients in the data.

Users should direct any feedback regarding the accuracy of the populated VTM Ingredient data to the NHSBSA email address below.

Quarter 4 2024: Maintenance of the VTM Ingredients in dm+d (XML) release files and SNOMED CT UK Drug Extension

The VTM Ingredient XML file will be maintained from Monday 18 November and the VTM Ingredients that need populating will be gradually added over a period of time.

The weekly dm+d extract will be added to TRUD and the NHS Terminology Server as usual and will include the live VTM Ingredients XML file.

Quarter 1 2025: Populating the remaining ingredients for VTMs

The recent work to add the ingredients to Virtual Therapeutic Moieties (VTMs) that needed populating has been completed.

The dm+d Editorial Policy has been updated to reflect the latest policy and will continue to be updated when any other exclusions are identified.

The VTM Ingredients information will only be available via TRUD and the NHS England Terminology Server from 23 September 2024 and will not be seen in the dm+d browser until further notice is provided.
