Wireless at NHS sites
Supporting the NHS to improve workforce wireless coverage and access across all NHS sites, including provision of a unified Wi-Fi solution.
Wireless connectivity remains a challenge across the NHS, particularly for staff working across multiple sites. This project will support NHS organisation to resolve these challenges.
In financial year 2025/26 this project is focused on discovery. This will include:
- engaging with NHS organisations to better understand their wireless connectivity challenges and how they have resolved them
- running a Proof of Concept for a unified NHS Wi-Fi roaming solution. This will look at how NHS staff can access Wi-Fi networks seamlessly across a range of organisations. NHS organisations will help to develop case studies to highlight effective local approaches to staff roaming connectivity
- initial planning for developing national standards and guidance to help NHS organisations improve wireless access and usability
This work will evaluate the potential for unified Wi-Fi roaming, national standards and shape a roadmap and recommendations, focused on the user need. These will inform delivery and support to NHS organisations from financial year 2026/27 onwards.
How to get involved
We want to hear from NHS providers and integrated care boards (ICBs) about their Wi-Fi and unified roaming challenges, requirements and successes. This will help to understand local considerations, complexities, and capture successes.
