How to view Child Protection – Information Sharing (CP-IS) alerts in NCRS

The Child Protection – Information Sharing (CP-IS) alert in NCRS indicates young people and children with ‘looked after’ status or a child protection plan.

In NCRS, the child protection alert can be seen in the ‘Overview’ tab as an amber banner which links to more information in the ‘Patient details’ tab.

These role-based access control (RBAC) codes can view CP-IS alerts: 

• B0107 
• B0170 

Users viewing a CP-IS alert with RBAC code B0107 will send an Access to Service Notification (ASN) to give the local authority details of:  

• who has viewed the record 
• which organisation they belong to 

The user's details will also be added to the table of previous views. 

Users with an RBAC code of B0170 will not send an ASN when viewing a CP-IS alert.  

A child protection alert in NCRS shows: 

• whether the child is looked after or has a child protection plan 
• the start date 
• the end date 
• the responsible local authority 
• emergency and office phone numbers 
• the last 25 views of the alert that were in emergency or unplanned care settings 

If there is a child protection plan for an unborn child, the alert will be shown on the mother’s record until 28 days after her expected delivery date.  

When the child is born, they will have their own NHS number. The child protection alert will then appear on the child’s record in NCRS.
