Governance

Find out more about our governance, including access to data, the Data Access Request Service (DARS) and Independent Group Advising on the Release of Data (IGARD).

Access to data

This form is a suggested template for joint data controllers who have been given the right to approve the Data Access Request Service (DARS) Data Sharing Agreement (DSA) documents on behalf of the authorising organisations.

Data Access Request Service (DARS)

The DARS service ensures that all data releases from NHS Digital meet legal and governance requirements.

Find out more about DARS and access the DARS portal.

Independent Group Advising on the Release of Data (IGARD)

IGARD provides guidance on the release of data and consider all requests for the dissemination of confidential information. They aim to improve transparency, accountability, quality and consistency through robust, independent scrutiny of NHS Digital data distributions, as well as providing a voice for stakeholders and the public.

They also make general recommendations or observations to NHS Digital about their processes, policies and procedures, including transparency measures such as the data release register.
