Evaluation of architecture readiness for cloud adoption against a reference framework. The assessment will be conducted with interviews, workshops, and review of architecture documentation

Service description

This service is aimed at NHS organisations setting out on a cloud journey, seeking to gain a clear understanding of the readiness for the cloud of their current systems architecture, the desired future states and the work required to reach the target state.

The Architecture Diagnostic ensures that the necessary elements are identified to develop a reasonable and actionable roadmap to achieve the expected outcome of cloud benefits.

Review of a trust’s IT architecture and associated working practices to:

determine readiness to design and implement cloud-based solutions
assess suitability of technical foundations for migration in relation to best practice
Identify opportunities to optimise application architectures for cloud environments

Delivery process

interview enterprise architects and technical architects
review documentation of cloud architecture patterns, standards and “as built” solutions
work incrementally with the stakeholders to review findings and validate direction
present findings and actionable roadmap

Key products

Architecture evaluation report

Present the architecture strategy and roadmap. Summarise the analysis and key findings of the Architecture Evaluation.

Technology selection document

Summarises the recommended cloud service provider (CSP), Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF), any relevant best practice frameworks (Well Architected Framework for example). LZ design selection if appropriate.

Architecture gap analysis

Identification and measurement of the as-is vs. to-be states.

Architecture roadmap

Gap closure actions and outline plan.

Cloud architecture gap analysis
