Register an iPad on your own profile

How to use Care Identity Management to register an iPad that you can then use to authenticate in place of a smartcard.

Before you can register your iPad

Before you begin, you must follow these steps:

  1. Install the NHS CIS2 app on the iPad. The app is available on the Apple Business store if your organisation has enabled it. If the app has not been enabled, the organisation's Registration Authority will need to complete this form

  1. Check that the iPad is not already registered. When you open the NHS CIS2 app:

  • if the first screen shows 'This device is not registered', you can begin the registration process

  • if the first screen shows 'This device is registered', you will need to request that the Registration Authority deregisters the iPad

  1. Check that only your fingerprints are included on the iPad’s Touch ID.

  1. On the device you are registering, in the NHS CIS2 app, prepare for registration by selecting ‘Register’.

When you have successfully completed the process, the device will be shown as registered in the NHS CIS2 app and you’ll be able to use the iPad app to authenticate. It will also display as registered in Care Identity Management, though it may take a few minutes to appear.

Transfer registration

This process allows a CIS2 Authentication iPad user to transfer their registration from one iPad to another.

Before you begin, you must have the device you’ve registered with NHS CIS2 Authentication and the newer device that you would like to register. Both devices must have the NHS CIS2 app installed.

On your new device, confirm that only your fingerprints are stored. Open the NHS CIS2 app on your new device and select ‘Register’.

On your registered device, open Care Identity Management and authenticate. Select the option to 'Add other authenticators'.
