Summary

This publication provides Management Information (MI) for Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) in England who submitted data on Personal Health Budgets (PHB) for Quarter 1 2022-23 (April - June 2022).

By the end of Quarter 1 2022-23 (June 2022) just under 90,000 people had received Personal Health Budgets in England.

Highlights

No data were published for Quarter 4 2020-21 or Quarter 1 2021-22 due to COVID-19. Publications resumed as normal from Quarter 2 2021-22 onwards.

89,112 people received Personal Health Budgets

78,166 adults and 10,946 children and young people received Personal Health Budgets by the end of Quarter 1 2022-23.

17,227 adults with a Personal Health Budget were eligible for Continuing Healthcare (CHC)

NHS Continuing Healthcare (NHS CHC) is a package of care for adults aged 18 or over which is arranged and funded solely by the NHS.

25% of Personal Health Budgets were delivered as direct payments

70% of Personal Health Budgets were delivered as notional budgets, 25% as direct payments and 5% as third party budgets.

A notional budget is where the NHS arranges and pays for the care; a direct payment is where the individual receives payment to buy care and support, and arranges it themselves; and a third party budget is where another organisation receives the payment and arranges the care.
