Summary

This statistical report, co-authored with Public Health England (PHE), reports childhood vaccination coverage statistics for England in 2019-20.

Data relates to the routine vaccinations offered to all children up to the age of five years, derived from the Cover of Vaccination Evaluated Rapidly (COVER). Additional information on children aged 2 and 3 vaccinated against seasonal flu are collected from GPs through PHE's ImmForm system.

Coverage increased in most routine vaccinations*

Vaccinations measured at 12 months, 24 months or 5 years, in England in 2019-20, compared to the previous year.

The increases ranged in size from 0.2 to 0.9 percentage points.

*NB.  The only coverage measure to decrease was the 5-in-1/6-in-1 at 24 months. See page 11 of the main report for more information.

5-in-1 coverage at 5 years remains above 95% target

Coverage at 5 years in 2019-20 was 95.2%, an increase from 95.0% in 2018-19.

MMR1 coverage at 24 months increased for the first time since a peak in 2013-14

MMR1 coverage at 24 months was 90.6%, an increase from 90.3% in 2018-19.

MMR coverage at 5 years was 94.5%, the same as the previous year.
