Summary
The National Diabetes Audit (NDA) is part of the National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme (NCAPOP) which is commissioned by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) and funded by NHS England, it is managed by NHS Digital in partnership with Diabetes UK.
The NDA provides a comprehensive view of diabetes care in England and Wales. It measures the effectiveness of diabetes healthcare against National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Clinical Guidelines and NICE Quality Standards. The NDA supports improvement in the quality of diabetes care by enabling participating NHS services and organisations to: Assess local practice against NICE guidelines. Compare their care, and care outcomes, with similar services and organisations, identify gaps or shortfalls that are priorities for improvement, identify and share best practice and provide a comprehensive national picture of diabetes care and outcomes in England and Wales.
This data release includes the care process and treatment target measurements for the full 2021-22 audit period (1 January 2021 – 31 March 2022); presented for England primary care, Wales primary care and specialist services (hospital-based care), each with its own separate data file.
Data from primary care in England was collected throughout the audit period. Data for specialist services in England is submitted throughout the year with the January 2021 to March 2022 cut of this data being taken in July 2022. Data from Wales was received in August 2022. The national report, scheduled for June 2023, will contain commentary on the audit findings and recommendations. We will communicate to users when the publication date for this report has been finalised.
Integrated Care Systems
An Integrated Care System (ICS) is made up of 2 key bodies - an Integrated Care Board (ICB) and an Integrated Care Partnership (ICP). The ICB is responsible for the function previously held by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) for England. We have presented the National Diabetes Audit data for the first time at ICB level in this release and no longer present CCG figures, referring temporarily instead to Sub-ICB Locations.
This change relates to the England primary care data sheets only; Wales is unaffected by this change.
