SCCI2112: FGM Risk Indication System (FGM RIS) - Local System Integration

The Department of Health has commissioned NHS Digital to implement a national Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Risk Indication System (FGM RIS) as part of the Department's wider FGM Prevention Programme.

About this information standard

The Department of Health has commissioned NHS Digital to implement a national Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Risk Indication System (FGM RIS) as part of the Department's wider FGM Prevention Programme. This system provides the functionality to allow a health care professional to indicate where they consider that a girl is at risk of female genital mutilation.

This information standard works alongside the FGM RIS and makes provision for the data held within the system to be made available to all relevant health care staff by allowing integration of a view only capability of the risk indicator within local NHS IT systems. This will allow fully integrated local query and response access to national FGM risk data.

This information standard is published under section 250 of the Health and Social Care Act 2012. An Information Standards Notice (see below) provides an overview of scope and implementation timescales and the other listed documents provide further detail for those who have to implement the information standard.

Update 3 September 2018:

The original Information Standards Notice (published on 19 October 2016) set a full conformance date of 31 March 2019. After discussion with providers and system suppliers, NHS Digital requested an extension to this conformance date. This has been agreed by the Data Coordination Board (the successor to SCCI) on the basis that no changes have been made to the standard; full conformance is now set at 31 March 2020.

An updated Information Standards Notice (Version 2.0 - see below) announces the change to the original conformance date. No other changes are introduced, and the original documentation remains current.

Update 11 June 2019:

A change to SCCI2112 is currently being assured by the Data Coordination Board and is due to be presented to the DCB in August 2019 for approval.

A proposed Requirements Specification for this change was uploaded to this web page in March 2019 in error; this has now been removed.  You are advised to wait for the approved Requirements Specification being made available.

The amended Specification will describe the move to local system integration of FGM IS (Information Sharing). This amendment requires the recording of an indicator for a child when an immediate family history of FGM exists. No assessment of risk is undertaken before adding the indicator. The presence of the indicator and subsequent information sharing will inform any required safeguarding actions.
