Summary

Philips have released a security update to address a vulnerability in their iSite and IntelliSpace picture archiving and communication system (PACS) products.

Threat details

A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability to gain control of an affected device, through which they could then obtain patient information.

PACS are used to collate, store and alter medical diagnostic images (X-ray, MRI, etc.). They provide clinicians with detailed information for use in patient diagnosis and treatment.

The vulnerability lies in how iSite and IntelliSpace PACS accept credentials passed to them from third-party applications. In some cases, the affected systems do not perform any authentication of these credentials, allowing full access to the application using the credentials. An attacker could use exploit this to to gain access to the affected PACS and obtain or alter patient medical images.
