At the time of publication it is unclear how KEYMARBLE is distributed, although it is highly probable that HIDDEN COBRA are using the same sophisticated phishing campaigns to deliver it.

Once on a device, KEYMARBLE uses a bespoke cryptographic algorithm to connect to its command and control infrastructure before awaiting further instructions. KEYMARBLE has the following capabilities:

  • File alteration, deletion and transferal
  • Shell command execution
  • Process creation and termination
  • User, system and device information collection
  • Registry key creation

  • A robust program of education and awareness training is delivered to users to ensure they don’t open attachments or follow links within unsolicited emails.
  • All operating systems, anti-virus and other security products are kept up-to-date.
  • All day-to-day computer activities such as email and internet are performed using non-administrative accounts.

  • Network, proxy and firewall logs should be monitored for suspicious activity.
