Threat details
At the time of publication it is unclear how King Ouroboros is delivered; although there are unconfirmed reports indicating it is distributed as a malicious attachment via small spam email campaigns.
Once executed, King Ouroboros will encrypt all local non-system files and inject the string king_ouroboros into their filenames e.g. test.king_ouroboros.doc. New desktop background and lock screen images are used to display the ransom note and payment details.
