Threat details
At the time of publication, the delivery method is unknown but it is most likely malvertising spam campaigns, malicious downloads or email attachments. A large downloaded file containing media files will trigger sounds and display images. Once running RedEye performs several actions where it disables system services such as the task manager and the registry editor then hide drives.
It will encrypt, overwrite or fill files with 0 bytes appending the RedEye extension to files and display a ransom note. When the time runs out the master boot record of the device is replaced, resulting in the affected device displaying a screen message "RedEye has terminated the computer".
