A vulnerability has been discovered in the 7-Zip open-source file archive utility which could allow a remote user to execute arbitrary code.

7-Zip is capable of compressing multiple files into a single RAR archive in order to save more space than compressing each file individually. When specially crafted files are included in these archives it is possible to force 7-Zip to automatically execute them when the archive is decompressed.

Any code executed in this manner will run with the same level of privileges as 7-Zip.

The Vulnerability is now able to bypass Address Space Layout Randomisation (ASLR) allowing versions of 7-Zip with ASLR supported to be affected.

This vulnerability is rectified in 7-Zip version 18.05. Users are advised to update to this version immediately.
