Geodo Banking Trojan

A new variant of the Geodo banking trojan has been discovered. The trojan will come from an email claiming to be a billing notification. The email uses common phishing techniques, such as using a company logo, to appear legitimate.

A new variant of the Geodo banking trojan has been discovered. The trojan will come from an email claiming to be a billing notification. The email uses common phishing techniques, such as using a company logo, to appear legitimate.

Threat details

If the attached JS file is downloaded, an error message will appear informing the user of an error when opening the attachment. If the user clicks ‘ok’, the malware will then contact its Command and Control (C2) server.

If successful, Geodo will make a HTTP GET request and the C2 server will respond with an HTTP 404 error code containing encrypted data.

Recent Geodo campaigns have used date or region-specific spam emails to increase infection rates. Geodo has also been observed installing other banking trojans such as TrickBot and Zeus Panda.
