Summary

VMware have released a security update to address a local code execution vulnerability in Workstation and Fusion products.

Threat details

The vulnerability lies within the drag-and-drop (DnD) function in VMware Workstation and Fusion. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability can allow an attacker to access out-of-bounds memory locations and execute arbitrary code on the operating system on which VMware is running.

This vulnerability can be mitigated by disabling both the Drag-and-Drop and Copy-and-Paste (C&P) functions.
