Summary

WordPress 4.7.3 has been released addressing multiple vulnerabilities in versions 4.7.2 and earlier.

Threat details

There are multiple vulnerabilities that will allow attackers to perform cross-site scripting (XSS) via different methods. These methods include; from media file metadata, by video URL in YouTube embeds and by taxonomy term names.

Additionally an administrator might delete unintended files by using the plugin deletion functionality.

These vulnerabilities have been fixed in WordPress version 4.7.3.

  • Ensure you have updated to WordPress 4.7.3 at the earliest opportunity.
  • Sites that support automatic background updates should enable this function. Sites that have enabled this function will already be updated to WordPress 4.7.3
