Summary

A remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability has been identified in ESET Endpoint Antivirus 6.

Threat details

Vulnerable versions are statically linked with an outdated XML parsing library and do not perform proper server authentication, allowing remote unauthenticated attackers to perform arbitrary code as root on vulnerable clients.

An attacker is able to intercept ESET’s connection to its backend servers, place themselves in the middle and exploit a XML library hole to achieve remote code execution.

ESET have released a patch in version 6.4.168.0 to mitigate the vulnerability.
