Overview

For CMDUs

We have created a tool, the Population Health Platform, to help COVID-19 Medicine Delivery Units (CMDUs) identify eligible patients for antiviral treatments.

CMDUs can use to tool to:

  • identify people who have received a positive COVID-19 test and who have at least one of the conditions shown above
  • record which patients have been processed

This tool has been developed to enable CMDUs to contact patients to arrange a triage assessment with a clinician.

It's not a decision support tool and there is no direction that clinicians must deliver treatment. Any decision to progress with treatment will be after a clinical assessment and must be based upon a clinician’s decision about their patient.

For the PANORAMIC study

The Population Health Platform can also be used to identify patients who may be eligible to access the treatments through the PANORAMIC study. This is a UK-wide clinical study sponsored by the University of Oxford and funded by the National Institute for Health Research.

You can find specific guidance in How to use the tool for PANORAMIC.

The PANORAMIC trial is currently paused on the Population Health webviewer.

About the treatments

Treatments are available for people aged 12 or over who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are at higher risk of becoming seriously ill.

For a person to qualify for treatment, a CMDU clinician must undertake a clinical assessment to ensure a patient is suitable. This is usually done over the phone.

The role of CMDUs

It's the responsibility of local CMDUs to contact patients and book an assessment with a clinician. Learn more about the NHS England and Improvement policy.
