Board Vacancies and Commercial Spend

Data Provision Notice to require the submission of data about board level vacancies in NHS trusts and clinical commissioning groups.

This Data Provision Notice sets out a requirement for data to be submitted by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) to NHS Digital.

In accordance with the Health and Care Act 2022, as of 1 July 2022, CCGs are abolished and their statutory obligations will be managed by Integrated Care Boards. These obligations include the continuing requirement to submit data to NHS Digital as set out in this Data Provision Notice.


Overview

The data to be collected under this Notice will support  the Talent Insights team within NHS England and NHS Improvement to:

  • develop one single data collection for all its workstreams at Executive Director, Non-Executive Director, and Chair-level in line with the NHS Long Term Plan and the NHS People Plan 2020/21
  • identify trends and insights over time e.g. persistent challenges experienced when appointing to certain types of post; variation in spend on advertising
  • have better visibility of demand and supply of board level roles across Trusts, CCGs, STPs and ICSs in England
  • assist with the creation of competency frameworks for every board level position across NHS Trusts and CCGs
  • support organisations in the recruitment, development and retention of the best and most diverse executive directors and board members.

Scope

This Notice is served on:

  • NHS Trusts
  • Clinical Commissioning Groups

and, from 2022-23:

  • Integrated Care Systems
  • Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships

Legal basis for provision of data


Period

The data items are to be collected on a quarterly basis. The first collection commenced on 21 July 2021.
