Alcohol Dependence Programme Patient Level Data Collection

Data Provision Notice to require the submission of data relating to alcohol dependence treatment services provided by NHS secondary care providers.

Overview

The NHS Long Term Plan (LTP) has set out a number of commitments towards the prevention of ill health, including the implementation of NHS-funded alcohol care teams (ACTs).

To deliver these commitments, NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSEI) is investing £24m by 2023/24 through the LTP, to optimise ACTs in hospitals with the highest rates of alcohol dependence related harm.

Patient level data provided through this collection will ensure that NHS England and NHS Improvement can not only demonstrate delivery of the alcohol LTP commitments but can influence service improvement.

In addition, patient level data is specifically required to enable the monitoring of:

  • the impact and clinical outcomes of alcohol dependence treatment services
  • the impact on reducing health inequalities.

Scope

This Notice is served on:

  • NHS trusts providing alcohol dependence treatment services.

Legal basis

Period

This is a monthly collection, starting in January 2022 with the collection of data for November 2021.

Thereafter data providers will be required to submit data 2 months in arrears; the submission window opening on the 2nd working day of each month. Data must be submitted no later than the 15th working day of the same month.
