Community Services Data Set

The Community Services Data Set (CSDS) is a patient level, output based, secondary uses data set delivering robust, comprehensive, nationally consistent and comparable person-centred information for children and adults who are in contact with publicly-funded community health services.

CSDS was created from the former Children and Young People’s Health Services (CYPHS) data set standard by removal of the age limit that had restricted CYPHS to contain data relating to patients up to their 19th birthday. As a secondary uses data set it intends to re-use clinical and operational data for purposes other than direct patient care. It defines the data items, definitions and associated value sets to be extracted or derived from local systems.

This Notice is served on:

• Providers of community services that are funded and/or provided by the NHS or local authorities.

This includes (but is not limited to):

• acute trusts
• any qualified providers (AQPs)
• care trusts
• community healthcare trusts
• hospices
• independent sector healthcare providers, including charitable organisations
• integrated care organisations
• local authorities
• mental health trusts
• social enterprises

From 1 November 2017, providers of publicly funded Community Health Services have been required to submit monthly CSDS submissions in accordance with the DAPB1069 CSDS information standard.

CSDS v1.6 will be collected locally from 1 January 2023 with national submissions commencing on 17 February 2023 for January 2023 data.

From October 2023, specified providers of publicly funded community health services will also pilot daily collections of a core subset of the CSDS.

10 May 2023: Removal of the Notice for Version 1.5 as data for this release can no longer be submitted.

9 January 2023: An update to the Notice for Version 1.6 has been issued to reflect a change to the submission window start date. The window now opens on 17 February 2023 (not 16 February).

24 October 2022: An additional Notice has been added to this page to reflect the move to Version 1.6 of the CSDS, effective January 2023. The Notice which covers Version 1.5 remains valid until then.
