This analysis presents a count of people diagnosed in each year from 2016-17 through to 2023-24 from the Mental Health Services Dataset.

Our response

The analysis also breaks this down by whether a person received a provisional, primary or secondary diagnosis. Additionally to this, counts have been presented for the number of people diagnosed in each year by the diagnosis codes recorded in the dataset.

No attempt to clean or group the diagnosis codes has been made with data presented as submitted to the dataset. This is done with the intention of giving users some context around the completeness of diagnosis recording generally but then also to give an indication of how often specific codes are recorded in the dataset.

For the purposes of this analysis, data between 1 and 4 is suppressed. Data over 5 has been rounded to the nearest 5, zeroes are shown. This is outside of the usual suppression rules applied to MHSDS but this disclosure control has been applied to maintain the utility of the data.
