Collection referral service

Refer data collections to us confidentially if you think we should reassess whether they're necessary or could be improved.

We will assess referred collections for:

  • quality
  • value to health and care
  • suitability

We can examine the data collection process to understand the burden required to establish, run and decommission a data collection.

Anyone who works in health and social care and is involved in data collection can refer collections to us, including NHS Digital staff.

Issues or suggested improvements will be discussed with the organisation requesting the data (the collection owner).

We will not share your identity or contact details without your permission.

Before you start

To complete this form you will need to know the names of:

  • the collection you want to refer
  • the organisation requesting the data – often a public body such as the Department of Health and Social Care or NHS England

Refer a data collection (opens in a new window).

What happens next

We will contact you within 2 working days to let you know we’ve received your referral.

Your referral will be assigned to a member of the Challenging Burden Service team. They will reply to you with a formal response and explanation of what happens next.
