Coronavirus Summary Care Record information

Find out how we're using the Summary Care Record to ensure health and care professionals have the information they need to provide patient care.

Summary Care Record additional information

To help the NHS to respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we are including additional medical information in Summary Care Records for patients by default, unless the patient has previously told the NHS that they did not want this information to be shared. This will enable healthcare professionals to have better medical information about the patient they are treating at the point of care. This change will apply for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic only. Unless alternative arrangements have been put in place before the end of the emergency period, this change will be reversed.

Summary Care Record application (SCRa)

The Summary Care Record application (SCRa) and National Care Records Service NCRS) is a web-based application which allows health and care professionals to view clinical and demographic information available through the NHS Spine, including the Summary Care Record (SCR).

Changes to the information available through the Summary Care Record may support you and your patients in dealing with coronavirus (COVID-19). You may want to consider the SCRa as an option to access this new information. In particular, we have launched coronavirus vaccination event information.

Coronavirus vaccination event information on patients, could help when planning ongoing care or responding to symptoms or changes to a patient’s health, which may be linked to coronavirus or a possible adverse drug reaction to a coronavirus vaccine.
