Involving patients and the public and demonstrating public benefit in research involving health and social care datasets, 23 November 2021

On 23 November 2021, the NIHR Research Design Service, Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), the MRC Regulatory Support Centre, Health Research Authority (HRA), Office of the National Data Guardian, Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership and NHS Digital held their fourth event in a series of researcher roadshows. 

The event focused on Involving patients and the public and demonstrating public benefit in research involving health and social care datasets.   

The event was aimed at researchers, public contributors and others interested in research involving existing health and social care data, and provides insights into working in partnership with people and communities and how to demonstrate public benefit, specifically:  

  • Health Research Authority describe the who, how, why and when of working in partnership, along with practical tips, examples and links of where to find out more  
  • Office of the National Data Guardian provide information on forthcoming guidance on public benefit  
  • HDR UK talking through how the public benefit guidance relates to those seeking to apply for access to existing health and social care data through HDR UK’s Gateway
