CMS 2.1 is now live in CIS, unlocking the following functions against Series 8 (Oberthur) Smartcards:
- RA-performed certificate renew of subject Smartcards (during the renewal window).
- RA-performed repair of subject Smartcards.
In order to enable this functionality, you will need the latest Oberthur middleware ‘SR5’.
Supporting information
When you'll require Oberthur middleware
You only need Oberthur middleware in order to perform certificate-based CMS operations against Series 8 (Oberthur) Smartcards, including:
- issuance (via Smartcard printer or Smartcard reader)
- smartcard print only
- cancellation
- RA renewal
- repair
You do not need Oberthur middleware in order to simply authenticate with Series 8 (Oberthur) Smartcards.
Additionally, it is not required if you are only performing passcode operations against Series 8 Smartcards, including:
- Smartcard passcode change (self or RA-assisted)
- Smartcard unlock
Known issues with the installation of Oberthur middleware
As always please check with your system suppliers prior to installing any software, to confirm it is compatible with their products and services.
We are aware that there are integration issues with SystmOne and EMIS Web. Their providers are currently working to resolve these issues.
Users cannot yet ‘self-renew’ certificates on Series 8 Smartcards
This will be addressed in a future CMS release.
