Creating a new NHS England: Health Education England, NHS Digital and NHS England have merged. More about the merger.

Financial support for developing a Personal Health Record

NHS England’s Innovation and Technology Payment (ITP) offers an Evidence Generation Fund (EGF) to support local PHR development.

How it works

The ITP programme runs an annual competition to provide support for the adoption of new innovations in the NHS.

The programme aims to overcome procurement and financial barriers to adoption, by providing central funding and support from AHSNs (Academic Health and Science Networks) on a case-by-case basis.

How funding is allocated

The funding is allocated through the seven NHS regions in England.

Each NHS England regional director of digital transformation will determine one or more Integrated Care Systems (ICS) or System Transformation Partnerships (STP) to receive funding.

The focus on PHRs

The Innovation and Technology Payment (ITP) Evidence Generation Fund is focused on personal health records (PHRs) for 2019-20.

The goal is to encourage the development of an evidence base to support the wider adoption of PHRs across the health and care system.

Approved ITP suppliers and products

ICSs and STPs will need to work with an approved supplier.

The following suppliers have been assessed and selected to be available from the fund:

Next steps

ICSs and STPs who’d like to get funding in their region should:

  • decide which supplier they wish to work with
  • contact their NHS England regional director of digital transformation
