How to get TRUD access and automate downloads

The XML Organisation Reference Data product is available via the Terminology Reference Update Distribution (TRUD) service. This guide explains how to access the product and automate downloads.

Access the XML product

First, you will need to access TRUD.

If you do not already have a registration you will need to register for the TRUD service via the ‘Create an account’ link, in the top right.

After completing your registration, you will need to request access to the relevant data packs, ‘ODS XML Organisation Data’ and ‘ODS XML Organisation Data – Supporting Products’, from the ‘Organisation Data Service and Spine Directory Service’ sub-menu on the left-hand side. 

Automate downloading of the XML product

If you want to automate the downloading of the TRUD packs, you will require an FTP account.
After registering for TRUD, request an FTP account via the Information Standards Service Desk by emailing information.standards@nhs.net.

The Information Standards Service Desk will help you to set up your FTP account.

The ODS API Suite will also be available from 1 May 2018 for users wishing to utilise an API (see the separate guidance).
