Changes to ODS regions, April 2019
On the 1 April 2019, there will be a number of changes to the regional arrangement of some NHS bodies within the Organisation Data Service.
This will help improve working on the front line, and make sure it aligns with commissioning structures.
Due to the complexities of applying the changes to support the 2019 reconfiguration activities, we will not create a release on Thursday 4 April.
The release dated Thursday 11 April will be the first release to reflect the changes, including newly formed NHS England Regions and CCGs.
- the North of England region will be split into two new regions - North West, and North East & Yorkshire
- the Midlands and East region will be split into two new regions - Midlands, and East of England
- five clinical commissioning groups (CCG) will move from Midlands to East of England
- a new NHS Devon CCG will be created by the merger of two existing CCGs
- a new NHS Derby and Derbyshire CCG will be created by the merger of four existing CCGs
- five GP practices, in Nottingham, Leicestershire, and Bradford, will change CCG
1. Regional changes in North of England
The current North of England region (Y54) will split into two new regions:
North West (Y62)
which will include
- Cheshire and Merseyside (Q75)
- Greater Manchester (Q83)
- Lancashire and South Cumbria (Q84)
North East and Yorkshire (Y63)
which will include:
- Cumbria and North East (Q74), including NHS Hambledon, Richmondshire and Whitby, which moves from Yorkshire and Humber (Q72)
- Yorkshire and Humber (Q72), except NHS Hambledon, Richmondshire and Whitby, which moves to Cumbria and North East (Q74)
In this move, 2 local offices will be affected:
- Cumbria and North East (Q74)
- Yorkshire and Humber (Q72)
This makes the region align with the regional Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP).
The offices in Cheshire and Merseyside (Q75), Greater Manchester (Q83), and Lancashire and South Cumbria (Q84) remain unaffected.
2. Regional changes in Midlands and East
The current Midlands and East Region (Y55) will split into two new regions:
Midlands (Y60)
which will include
- Central Midlands (Q78), which will be split, with 5 CCGs moving to East region (Q79)
- North Midlands (Q76)
- West Midlands (Q77)
East of England (Y61)
which will include
- East (Q79), including 5 CCGs transferred from Central Midlands (Q78)
The five CCGs transferring from Central Midlands (Q78) to East (Q79) are:
ODS code | Clinical commissioning group |
---|---|

06F | NHS Bedfordshire CCG |

06N | NHS Herts Valleys CCG |
06P | NHS Luton CCG |
In this move, two local offices will be affected:
