Online access to GP records patient case studies: Mona's story
Find out how Mona uses the App to care for herself and her loved ones.
Mona's story
Mona finds the app surprisingly simple to use, not only for herself, but on behalf of her mother who doesn’t speak English.
“I found it really simple, not high tech and the way it’s laid out it’s easy to see you’ve got your test results, and your GP records.”
Making life easier
Taking control
Mona, who is in her 50s and lives in Bradford, said using the App makes her feel in control: “I use the App to check if follow up actions have been taken by my GP and to see the outcomes of referrals and appointments. It makes me feel that it’s a bit like a joint decision then.
“I also view my blood pressure results taken in the surgery and compare these to my results at home. This helps me to understand and manage my condition, so I can take action if my blood pressure is high and know when I need to contact the GP.”
Caring for others
Mona also cares for her mum, who doesn’t speak English so she also has permission to view her records, which means she can also keep track of her mother’s healthcare needs and help her understand. “Having access to mum’s records means I know what actions have been taken and who is responsible for her treatment plan and upcoming tests. As mum doesn’t speak English, she wouldn’t understand all of the information so I can help her and we both feel the benefit.”
Ease of use
Mona finds the app easy to use. She also likes that there is the option to register to take part in research and choose how to get involved.
