Individuals have been able to set national data opt-outs since 25 May 2018. The service allows individuals to set a national data opt-out or reverse a previously set opt-out. Existing type 2 opt-outs and those set up until 1 October 2018 are automatically converted to national data opt-outs on a monthly basis. All these patients will be written to explaining this mapping.
Between 25 May 2018 and 27 June 2018, 2,315 transactions were made on the service to set or reverse a national data opt-out. 901 of these transactions were supporting their confidential patient information to be used for research and planning, and 1,414 of these transactions were to opt out. Some of these transactions re-stated a previous choice.
Note: please note that as some of these transactions re-stated a previous choice, a net figure cannot be obtained by summing them or adding them to the number of type 2 opt-outs presented in the management information release. Subsequent releases of management information will provide a single figure for national data opt-outs, whether they have been supplied as type 2 opt-outs via GP systems or via the national data opt-out system.
