NHS Digital services accessible over the internet

A list of our services currently available over the internet.

These are NHS Digital’s national digital services that can be accessed over the public internet.  Other national digital services remain reliant on connectivity via the Health and Social Care Network (HSCN).  We are in the process of making more national digital services available for use over the public internet. This page will be updated regularly to reflect the current position.


Clinical Audit Platform

The Clinical Audit Platform is a web based system for health and care staff submitting data across our range of clinical audits, registries and collections. Generally accessed on Windows via Internet Explorer, CAP does work in other browsers but some functionality may be limited.


Data Access Environment (DAE)

The Data Access Environment (DAE) allows users to remotely access better-linked information securely. The DAE is best accessed on a desktop computer. It can also be accessed on a tablet, but there may be limitations with more complex queries and larger datasets.


Data Access Request Service (DARS)

The Data Access Request Service (DARS) helps customers including clinicians, researchers, commissioners, commercial companies, and the life science sector access the data required to help benefit the NHS and Social Care.


Directory of Services (DoS)

The Directory of Services (DoS) is a central directory that is integrated with NHS Pathways. DoS provides a user interface to authorised users to maintain the database through the url www.directoryofservices.nhs.uk. It can be accessed on any device with most modern browsers.


Electronic Data Transfer (EDT)

Electronic Data Transfer (EDT) is the mechanism by which data is transported into the Secondary Uses Service (SUS)


Message Exchange for Social care and Health (MESH)

The Message Exchange for Social care and Health (MESH) is the main secure large file transfer service used across health and social care organisations.


NHSmail

NHSmail is a secure email service approved for sharing sensitive information. NHSmail can be accessed on any device.


NHS App

The NHS App provides a simple and secure way for people to access a range of NHS services on their smartphone or tablet. The NHS App is now available to the public on Google Play and Apple app stores.


NHS Electronic Referral Service (eRS)

The NHS Electronic Referral Service (eRS) enables patients to combine electronic booking with a choice of place, date and time for first hospital or clinic appointments. The e-RS patient website (Manage your referral) can be accessed via any device.


NHS Care Identity Service 2

NHS Care Identity Service 2 (NHS CIS2) offers internet-facing authentication to OpenID Connect (OIDC) enabled applications. It is currently only available on IOS (iPad).


NHS login

NHS login provides patients with a simple, secure and re-usable way to access multiple digital health and care services.


NHS Pathways Intelligent Data Tool

NHS Pathways Intelligent Data Tool is a dashboard platform that indexes the real-time 111/999 telephony data that comes into NHS Digital.


NHS Service Finder

NHS Service Finder is a web-based search tool for healthcare professionals. It provides access to urgent and emergency care service information (including mental health and social care) that can be used to signpost patients. NHS Service Finder can be accessed on any device, including smartphones.


NHS 111 Online

NHS 111 Online provides a fast and convenient alternative to the 111 phone service. It's available through any internet-enabled device.


Organisation Data Service (ODS)

The Organisation Data Service (ODS) is responsible for publishing codes that identify organisations and individuals across health and social care.


Strategic Data Collection Service Cloud (SDCS Cloud) 

The Strategic Data Collection Service in the cloud (SDCS Cloud) is an internet-facing data submission portal, currently used for the submission of a number of national datasets and collections. SDCS is best accessed on a desktop computer.


National Care Records Service pilot

The National Care Records Service pilot is a new re-platformed version of the SCRa product. The National Care Records Service pilot is available on iOS through the NHS CIS2 OpenID authentication service.
