Introduction
We use a risk based approach to testing and integration with NHS Care Identity Service 2 (NHS CIS2). In addition to this, you do need to complete a technical conformance test to demonstrate adherence to the required standards.
Following development of your product you will be ready to perform your formal integration test. As part of this, you will need to successfully demonstrate the end-to-end authentication of your product. The formal authentication test will need to take place in our integration environment.
Giving us as much notice as possible will help us to meet the timeline you have indicated for your go live. You will also need to consider what activities need to be completed in order to go live with NHS CIS2 authentication.
Test in the integration environment
We need you to run a test scenario as part of the end to end testing in the integration environment.
To run the test, you will need to advise us of the:
- IP address of the User device used to perform the test
- IP address of the Server component used to perform the test
- UUID of the User Identity used to perform the test
- Exact date and time of test session
Once your testing is complete, we will review the report we capture and return it to you. You will then need to include this report in your final SCAL document, which you will then need to submit for review and approval.

National Service Desk
NHS CIS2 is supported by the NHS Digital National Service Desk. If you are an external client, you must complete and submit a Service Discovery Form to use this service for NHS CIS2. If you are already registered with the National Service Desk, you will still need to complete a Service Discovery Form.
Find out about NHS CIS2's service, problem and incident management processes on the client service management page. This includes information on our service level agreement and Higher Severity Service Incident (HSSI) management.
Complete and submit the relevant agreements
The type of agreement you must review and sign will depend on whether you are an internal or external client. You will not be able to go live unless you have signed and returned the relevant agreement.
Internal clients
You will sign our internal NHS Digital agreement.
External clients
You will need to review and sign an NHS Digital Connection Agreement. More information can be found in the NHS CIS2 legal agreements guidance.
See an example Connection Agreement. We will send your own bespoke version when you are ready to progress in the healthcare realm environment.
