Digital Services for Integrated Care

We are improving digital products across care settings to support and enable an integrated care system, working with technology suppliers to deliver a choice of commonly assured, intuitive and innovative products and services.

The Digital Services for Integrated Care model aims to give the people that use digital clinical systems a wider range of assured products and services, whilst also providing more opportunities for suppliers.

What we do

Our purpose is to provide healthcare professionals with digital products and services that help them provide the best patient care, reduce burden and provide greater value for money.

We work with suppliers to provide them with a route into market for digital clinical systems.

Our work includes:

  • publishing standards and capabilities to help suppliers meet technical and clinical requirements
  • defining assurance processes, so that buyers know that what is available is fit for purpose
  • standardising integration, to make it easier for products and services to work seamlessly across health care settings

We have evolved the products and services developed by the GP IT Futures programme into the new Digital Services for Integrated Care model. This recognises the increased range of settings we are already supporting and the need to drive standardisation and innovation across the NHS.

Why we are expanding our reach

Since 2018 we have been working with suppliers and those who buy digital GP systems to develop innovative systems for general practice, from the core clinical systems GP staff use every day to manage appointments, referrals and patient information, to video and online consultations.

But this is not all we do. Our tech systems also need to be able to support patients to be treated in multiple care settings, so we will also be looking at how systems can be joined up across the health and care system.

Whilst we will continue to support general practice, our work will also connect care settings across Integrated Care Systems, including better connecting systems between GP and pharmacy.

It will also provide systems suppliers with access to more markets, with the work they do having the potential to be useable for multiple care settings.

Advantages for care settings
  • you can choose and deploy products and services digitally through the Buying Catalogue, reducing paperwork and complexity
  • our products and services are assured so you can be confident they meet technical and clinical standards
  • we’re increasing the choice you have by bringing more high-quality and user-centred products and services to market, and we will see this result in more innovation and better value for money
  • our model sets out standards and capabilities for suppliers that reflect the needs of an evolving NHS, such as ICBs, and other care settings
Advantages for suppliers
  • in our set of frameworks you can find the capabilities and technical standards that are required for systems within the NHS
  • we provide routes for your products to be clinically assured
  • your products are visible through the Buying Catalogue
  • we’re expanding our model to cover other areas within primary care and beyond - this means your products can be part of a joined-up healthcare system, with access to more care settings
