Full Rollout Approval for GP Connect Send Document

EMIS Web and TPP SystmOne clinical systems have approval for both the Send and Receive elements of GP Connect Send Document.

The product makes it simpler for information to be shared across systems, for clinicians to deliver improved care and to minimise administration time and effort.

Enabled users will be able to:

  • create and send a PDF consultation summary of care encounters held outside of the registered GP Practice to replace time-consuming methods like printed letters, NHS mail or fax
  • transfer Consultation Summaries across secure infrastructure directly into the patient's registered practice system, for addition to the patient record by the registered GP Practice
  • rollout is restricted to sites that have expressed an interest - to discuss using the service, please contact the team [email protected].

Send Document utilises NHS Digital’s MESH file transfer service to create and send a Consultation Summary PDF that captures a care encounter in a setting other than a patient’s registered practice. The PDF summary arrives at the clinical system of the patient’s registered practice and can then be manually incorporated into the patient’s record. This saves time and effort and presents the consultation summary in a standardised and secure way. Future iterations of the product will automate the writing of information from the consultation summary to the patient record.

Send Document’s primary use cases are currently for sending Consultation Summaries between sites in a PCN or from an Extended Access Hub back to a patient’s registered practice. Work is underway to extend the scope of the service which will enable Send Document for use in a variety of additional use cases.

This first Phase of Send Document has now completed pilot with EMIS Web and SystmOne. Both systems have now been granted Full Rollout Approval limited to organisations who have specifically requested Send Document be enabled. Once EMIS and TPP have completed development against an uplifted specification that enhances the usability of the Consultation Summary PDF the service will be enabled nationally.
