Primary Care Networks

Collection monitoring the impact of investment in Primary Care Networks (PCNs) made through the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme, part of the Network Contract Directed Enhanced Services (DES).

Purpose and outline

We are collecting data for NHS England on how extra staff, employed under the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme within the Network Contract Directed Enhanced Services (DES), improve capacity in general practice, and how much of this extra capacity is used. We will collect this data for 2019/20 at GP practice level. We plan to improve collection to make it possible to collect it at network level in the future.

This collection monitors the effects of the investment in Primary Care Networks (PCNs) made as part of the five-year framework for GP contract reform to implement the NHS Long Term Plan published in January 2019. The investment is being made to support the expansion of the primary care workforce and the implementation of seven national Network Service Specifications between 2019/20 and 2023/24.
