MMR vaccination programme

Purpose and outline

Following the publication of the Interim report of the Vaccination and Immunisation Review in October 2019 NHS England and Improvement has agreed changes to the payment of MMR vaccines from 1 April 2020. The service is now made up of an automated extract for payment counts and a manual entry requirement for management information counts.

Automated extract - payment counts

Data will be collected automatically via GPES for the automated payment service for the following patient groups receiving MMR vaccination:

  • Children 0-5 years
  • Children 6-15 years
  • Adults 16 years and over

Manual entry - management count requirements

Adherence with a targeted catch-up campaign in those aged 10/11 years will be monitored via management information counts which will require manual entry.

Participation in an MMR catch-up programme for patients aged 10 and 11 years will form part of the core requirements of vaccination and immunisation services from 1 April 2020. Practices will be required to audit the records of this cohort and when a patient is identified as unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, they are required to contact the patient on three separate occasions to try to get the patient to be vaccinated.

Business rules will be available for the automated counts, but will not be provided for the manual management information counts. Practices should decide the best mechanism for reporting the figures, either by developing their own templates or by working with their system supplier to create a template.
