The sessions are aimed at learners who:

  • are experienced trainer/facilitators, who will be delivering training on NHS e-Referral Service to Referring Clinician end users within referring organisations
  • will be using the Referring Clinician role themselves

By the end of the session delegates will be able to:

  • describe the end-to-end process of how the NHS e-Referral Service is used, including benefits for both patients and medical professionals
  • explain how the system can be used in different referral pathways
  • search for patients, including an awareness of how integrated GP systems interact with NHS e-Referral Service
  • understand the difference between Directly Bookable (DBS) and Referral Assessment Services (RAS)
  • create and manage referral requests, including:
    • using SNOMED terms to search for services
    • adding clinical information
    • booking/rebooking/cancelling appointments and appointment requests
    • facilitating referrals where there are local capacity issues
  • create and manage Advice and Guidance Requests and responses
  • understand the functionalities involved in a RAS (Referral Assessment Service)
  • supervise and manage each worklist within NHS e-Referral Service
  • use the Directory of Services research facility
  • know, and direct others to, where NHS e-Referral Service information, training materials/aids, guidance, documentation and support can be found, to facilitate local needs and national goals
