Prescribing for Diabetes in England

This report presents national level trends in prescribing for diabetes in England with information that illustrates the increasing prevalence of diabetes and obesity in England. It looks at information on primary and secondary care prescribing for diabetes from 2002 to 2007 and highlights key issues for consideration. In parallel with the publication of this report, Dr Sue Roberts (national Clinical Director for diabetes) and the National Diabetes Support Team are keen to promote discussion within PCTs and SHAs around appropriate management and prescribing for people with diabetes. Current PCT level prescribing data will be available to support discussions. The report has been produced jointly by the Information Centre and the Yorkshire and Humber Public Health Observatory

Prescribing for Diabetes in England - 2002-2008, An update

Diabetes is a clinical area of high expenditure. This report presents national level trends in prescribing for diabetes in England with information that illustrates the increasing prevalence of diabetes and obesity in England. It looks at information on primary and secondary care prescribing for diabetes from 2002 to 2008. The number of prescription items and Net Ingredient Cost (NIC) are used to analyse volume, expenditure and trends in the prescribing of insulin, oral anti-diabetic drugs and diagnostic and monitoring agents. The report has been produced jointly by The NHS Information Centre and the Yorkshire and Humber Public Health Observatory (YHPHO), and is an update to an earlier report published in November 2007.

Prescribing for Diabetes in England - January 2002 to March 2009, Supplement

Diabetes is a clinical area of high expenditure. This report presents national level trends in prescribing for diabetes in England. It looks at information on primary care prescribing for diabetes from January 2002 to March 2009. The number of prescription items and Net Ingredient Cost (NIC) are used to analyse volume, expenditure and trends in the prescribing of insulin and anti-diabetic drugs. The report has been produced to supplement the earlier (June 2009) report jointly published by The NHS Information Centre and the Yorkshire and Humber Public Health Observatory (YHPHO) which presented data up to September 2008. The data presented in the report covers prescriptions issued in primary care in England and dispensed in the community in the United Kingdom.

Prescribing for Diabetes, England - 2005/06 to 2014/15

This report shows£prescribing trends for medicines prescribed in primary care in England for the treatment of diabetes for the period April 2005 to March 2015. This is the latest in a series of annual reports published by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) on Prescribing for Diabetes in England, within primary care. Diabetes is a high profile clinical area, as the prevalence is increasing and costs associated with treating patients with diabetes are also increasing. Note:£ The last sentence of the second bullet point on page 4 in the Executive Summary has been corrected as at 14th August 2015 to show the total cost of prescribing for diabetes in 2005/06 as £513.9million. The csv file has been corrected as at 1st September 2015 to replace organisation codes that were corrupted as part of the update on the 14th August. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
