Prescribing Costs in Hospitals and the Community, England 2015/16

This report compares expenditure between primary and secondary care in total and for medicines positively appraised by NICE. £ All costs given in this report are net ingredient cost (NIC). This is the basic price of a drug excluding VAT (the price listed in the national Drug Tariff or in standard price lists). Cost changes have not been adjusted for inflation. It does not take account of discounts, dispensing costs, fees or prescription charges income. £ Please note, the key fact figure£for the rise in the cost of medicines in hospitals since 2010/11 has been corrected to 81.8 per cent as£stated in the accompanying report.

Prescribing costs in hospitals and the community

22 November 2016: "Prescribing costs in hospitals and the community", published today by NHS Digital, reports the overall costs of medicines used in hospitals and those prescribed in primary care. It also looks at medicines positively appraised by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Hospital Prescribing - England, 2011

This report compares expenditure between primary and secondary care in total and for selected areas, including medicines positively appraised by NICE. The specific area covered this year£is£medicines for HIV and AIDs. £ An error has been identified with the figures given in table 4 for alendronic acid and rosiglitazone in the original publication released in November 2012. Corrected versions of the report and the Excel spreadsheet replaced the incorrect versions on 25th March 2013

Hospital Prescribing, England - 2012

Please note: on 26 November 2013 an updated version of the report was uploaded to correct an error in the data presented for England in Table 3 of the report. All SHA figures in this table were correct and remain the same. This was due to a production error by the HSCIC. This report compares expenditure between primary and secondary care in total and for selected areas, including medicines positively appraised by NICE. The specific area covered this year are anti-bacterial drugs (BNF Section 5.1).

Prescribing Costs in Hospitals and the Community, England 2016/17

Published: 21 November 2017 - This report presents summary figures relating to medicine costs at list price in hospitals and in the community in England for 2016/17, and the recent growth in use. The report aims to show the relative use of medicines in hospital and in primary care and the wider health economy. It also includes a section looking at the costs at list price of medicines positively appraised by NICE. Many of these are used mainly or exclusively in hospitals.
