Prescription Cost Analysis, England - 2016

Prescription Cost Analysis (PCA) provides details of the number of items and the net ingredient cost (NIC) of all prescriptions dispensed in the community in England. The drugs dispensed are listed by British National Formulary (BNF) therapeutic class. This publication includes data sheets for the first time on items dispensed and NIC from 2006 to 2016 at individual presentation level.The Prescribing by Dentists report is no longer published separately in April, however the data is already included in this publication and a separate csv file purely with the dentists data is now included. Please note the two csv files (PCA data and Dental data) should not be added together as the PCA data already includes the Dental data.Further analysis of the PCA and Dental data will be published later in the year in the Prescriptions Dispensed in the Community publication.

Prescription Cost Analysis (PCA) provides details of the number of items and the net ingredient cost of all prescriptions dispensed in the community in England. The drugs dispensed are listed by British National Formulary (BNF) therapeutic class. The Prescribing by Dentists report will no longer be published separately in April, however the data is already included in this publication and a separate csv file is included this year purely with the dentists data. Please note the two csv files (PCA data and Dental data) should not be added together as the PCA data already includes the Dental data. Further analysis of the PCA and Dental data will be published later in the year in the Prescriptions Dispensed in the Community publication.

Prescription Cost Analysis (PCA) provides details of the number of items and the net ingredient cost of all prescriptions dispensed in the community in England. The drugs dispensed are listed by British National Formulary (BNF) therapeutic class. Further analysis of the PCA data will be published later in the year in the Prescriptions Dispensed in the Community publication. Please note: on 27 April 2015, the Top 20 data spreadsheet and the text below was updated to reflect an error in the ordering and inclusion of the drugs with the highest Net Ingredient Cost. No figures have been changed. Users are advised to download the revised file to ensure they have the correct data. The HSCIC would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Quarterly Prescription Cost Analysis (PCA) provides details of the number of items and the net ingredient cost of all prescriptions dispensed in the community in England. The drugs dispensed are listed by British National Formulary (BNF) therapeutic class. This is the third quarterly publication and covers Quarter 3 (July to September) 2011.

Prescription Cost Analysis - England, 2009

The 2009 data are provided from the links above in two formats: Portable Document Format Downloadable spreadsheet in Excel 5 or later version, or Excel 5 in zipped format. In the PDF file, the number of prescription items dispensed for individual preparations, dressings or appliances is rounded to the nearest 100. There are a very large number of preparations/dressings/appliances where less than 50 items were dispensed in 2009. While accounting for just under 50 per cent of the total number of preparations dispensed, such preparations covered 0.01 per cent of the total items dispensed. In order, therefore, to keep the publication to a manageable size, such preparations have been excluded. The Excel file also excludes data on products where less than 50 prescription items were dispensed and aggregating data for individual products may not produce the actual totals. The Excel file therefore includes these totals for the following 6 levels of aggregation: Chemical entity BNF...
